An unidentified person stole a car while its owner was then playing poker at an establishment in Chalan Kanoa on Saturday afternoon. The vehicle was later recovered at the cemetery, police said.

Department of Public Safety spokesman Travis Hurst said yesterday that on Saturday at 3:21pm, police received a call about a stolen vehicle in Chalan Kanoa.

Hurst said Police Officer Maverick Saures responded to the poker establishment and met with the victim, who claimed that he had placed his keys and other personal belongings next to the poker machine he was playing on.

When the victim went to another machine, he forgot to take his keys with him. When he returned to get his keys from where he placed them, they were no longer there.

The victim went outside and observed his vehicle was also gone.
At 5:52pm that same day, Officers Saures and Buddy Igitol, along with the victim, recovered the vehicle in the Chalan Kanoa Cemetery located south of the Mount Carmel Cathedral.

Hurst said members of the DPS crime scene unit processed the vehicle for fingerprints and other latent evidence.
Once the processing was completed, the vehicle was turned back to the owner.

Hurst said DPS is currently investigating this incident and is following up on all leads.

“Anyone with information about this case is asked to call DPS at 664-9001,” Hurst said. (Ferdie de la Torre)
