APRA HARBOR, Guam—A 45-foot Response Boat Medium from U.S. Coast Guard Station Apra Harbor assisted six individuals aboard a vessel taking on water on Dec. 31, 2013.
That afternoon, U.S. Coast Guard Sector Guam received a report that a Station Apra Harbor small boat came across a 15-foot recreational vessel aground and taking on water in the vicinity of Sumay Cove. Four adults and two children were aboard the vessel. The Coast Guard RBM safely removed two children and two adults from the vessel. The other adults were able to safely paddle the vessel to shore. All six were united before the RBM returned to base. (USCG)
PAGO BAY, GUAM—Guam Fire and Rescue, Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 25, and Coast Guard Sector Guam coordinated response for two swimmers in distress on Dec. 31, 2013.
That afternoon, U.S. Coast Guard Sector Guam received a report from GFR that GFR units were responding to the report of two swimmers in distress outside of Pagat Cave. GFR Rescue I, Rescue II, and Rescue III were being dispatched when Sector Guam received the call. HSC-25 launched minutes after being briefed by Sector Guam. A GFR ground crew was able to hike into the distress location and assessed the scene from shore, while a HSC-25 helicopter made an assessment from the waterside. The HSC-25 helicopter successfully hoisted two individuals from the reef and transported them to the hospital. The GFR ground crew encountered six other individuals at the scene and escorted them back to the Pagat Cave trail head. (UCCG)
