The Bureau of Environmental and Coastal Quality’s Cleanup Brigade will be picking up trash at Old Man by the Sea on Feb. 1, 2014, starting at 8am.

Thanks to some volunteers the trail to Old Man by the Sea Beach has been cleared of overhanging branches for easy access. BECQ is calling for able volunteers to haul a bunch of marine debris from the beach.

If you would like to volunteer your time to clean and beautify our island, meet the BECQ representatives on Feb. 1 at the Old Man by the Sea trail entrance at 8am. Volunteers will split into groups and clean until 10am and break for drinks and then continue, if needed.

This month, outstanding brigade volunteers who participated in at least 10 monthly cleanups will receive a brigade cap and those who participated in at least three cleanups will receive a brigade t-shirt.

Last month’s Pau Pau Beach cleanup was successful, with 29 volunteers participating. Thanks to, students from Smart Start Daycare, GTC, Tanapag, and William S. Reyes elementary schools, Grace Christian Academy, Marianas Baptist Academy, Saipan Southern High School YEA Club, CHC, KSPN News, PSS Central, Zoning, and other volunteers, about 440 lbs of marine debris was removed from the beach and properly disposed of.

The BECQ is looking forward to a repeat success this Saturday, so join BECQ’s monthly cleanup brigade and “Pick It Up!” Let us work together for the health of our coral reefs and cleanliness of our beaches for everyone to enjoy.

For more information about volunteering, please contact the BECQ office at 664-8500/1. (BECQ)
