Island motorists can once again thank decreases in crude oil prices nationally, giving Saipan a 15-cents decrease in gas prices.

Mobil Oil Mariana Islands and Shell Marianas slashed their gas prices late afternoon yesterday. Mobil gas stations started changing their prices at 3pm while Shell followed around 5pm.

Regular unleaded gasoline at Mobil gas stations and V-Power at Shell on Saipan is now 15 cents lower, from $4.759 to $4.609.

Super unleaded gasoline at Mobil went from $5.079 to $4.929.

Shell’s diesel went from $5.119 to $4.969.

Many motorists expressed happiness upon seeing the new reduction in gas prices.

Ann Margaret Ayuyu, 25, said it is kind of a big change for gas prices to be decreasing.

“I am still kind of skeptic about it; it might go up again. But it saves me a lot of gas [for now] and it is a big help for everyone,” Ayuyu said.

A national survey reported by the Associated Press early November stated that gas prices have gone down 13 cents. The current average as of yesterday for U.S gas prices on regular is $2.863 and $3.260 for premium.

There was no immediate report if gas prices on Tinian and Rota have also gone down. Gas prices on both islands are usually much higher compared to Saipan.
