NMI history book to get updates
The second set of the History of the Northern Marianas Islands by Don Farrell is in the works and should be published around summer of next year, according to Education Commissioner Dr. Rita Sablan. Farrell’s book has been widely used for years in the CNMI’s public schools and this version will bring its history up to the present day.
All the editorial work has been done on all the book’s different chapters up to the modern era, but Farrell would like to now include the 2015 election, she said.
“Everything is done except that [Farrel] would like to include the new government that is coming into office on Jan. 15,” Sablan told CNMI Board of Education officials at a recent committee meeting.
These additions would include the new administrative, judicial, and legislative branches as well as the first elected attorney general, according to the commissioner.
The anticipated publication is in April 2015. The book should roll out before the summer or during summer, she said.
What’s interesting is that Executive Orders (as well as Lincoln’s Proclamation) have no basis in law. There is no provision for an Imperial Presidency in the U.S. Constitution and is exactly what Thomas Jefferson warned about – that is, too much power to one individual. So, by unconstitutional legal maneuverings and justifications we have a whole litany of Executive Orders, none of them quite legal.
