Gechig earns ‘Master Player’ recognition
The Veterans’ J.R. Gechig was named “Master Player” after completing all the scoring techniques in the on-going Rocball league.
Gechig earned the distinction as he scored a goal in the Veterans’ 48-13 juiced out win over the Teachers late last month at the Marianas High School Gymnasium. The “Master Player” recognition is given to player who has scored at least one ace, xunk, kee, jam, and goal.
“Earning the title isn’t easy. The average number of Rocball players able to complete all the scoring techniques of Rocball is about one per season. And Rocball seasons are usually 50 games plus the semifinals and championship games,” Rocball creator James Feger said in an email to Saipan Tribune.
In other Rocball league news, Oba Squirt pulled off a double-overtime win over Get Very Determined.
The Oba Squirt and Get Very Determined were forced to play an extended game after the former won the all-important fourth set and the latter still had the lead in regulation.
In Rocball, a leading team can only win a game if it also prevails in the fourth set. If the leading squad loses the fourth set, the match will go to overtime with the trailing team needing to prevail twice to steal the victory and the former only once to save the win.
The first team to get 7 points in overtime wins the match and Oba Squirt completed its comeback bid after taking both OT games.
