Tanapag school Marine Biology Club cleans up

The Marine Biology Club of Tanapag Middle School took time out last month to help clean the environment by participating in the Marianas Visitors Authority’s Beautify My Marianas campaign.
Twelve members of the club met at Aqua Resort Club lobby on Dec. 13, 2014, and proceeded to collect trash along a 1-mile beach strip.
“Aqua [Resort] beach wasn’t that dirty, since it’s a resort,” said participant Maria Agustin. “The trees gave us a good cooling shade. The scenery was beautiful with clear, crystal blue waters, even the houses near the shore were stunning.“
But the effort was not entirely pleasant.
“Along the way we came to a place that had piles of beer cans that still contained beer,” said Agustin. “The stench was revolting and disgusting.”
The group ended up filling at least seven trash bags. Cleanup participants were: Agustin, Maria Cruz, Joanne Ragasa, Sami Nimura, Jose Anon, Fiona Rathburn, Andrew Camacho, Enrico Morales Jr., Jovina Pua, Darlyn Maca, Hannah Palacios, and De Faustina Camacho. They were chaperoned by Andrea Camacho, Enrico Morales, and Terra Allen.
