Unexploded ordnance found off Managaha coast

An unexploded ordnance was found off the coast of Managaha Island, the Department of Public Safety disclosed Saturday afternoon.

Managaha security employees were advised to keep tourists away from the area of the ordnance, which was located approximately 12 feet under the surface of the water.

DPS spokesman Travis Hurst said Boating Safety Section officers relayed a picture, along with the location, to the DPS Hazardous Explosives Response Team.

Hurst said the DPS Hazardous Explosives Team is in the process of formulating a plan to retrieve and dispose of the ordnance.

He said if the DPS Hazardous Explosives Team deems it is beyond their scope, then the U.S. Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit out of Guam will be summoned to assist DPS in the removal efforts.

The report did not mention what type of ordnance was found and who spotted it.
