Splits for Schorr, Miyawaki in Queensland
The CNMI’s Robbie Schorr and Malika Miyawaki split their first two games in the 2015 Brisbane Age in Queensland, Australia yesterday.

Schorr played in the qualifying tournament for the boys U14 singles event and swept Amir Abar, 6-1, 6-2. It took him only one hour and 10 minutes to eliminate Abar in their morning match at the Griffith University Tennis Centre.
The Commonwealth junior netter then returned to the court in less than two hours to face the fifth-ranked Jake Nicholson in the second round. Schorr picked up where he left off eking out a 7-6 (7) win over Nicholson, but the latter stole the win after prevailing in the next two sets, 6-0, 10-4.
With the loss, Schorr dropped to the loser’s bracket and will square off against Anthony Tenaglia at 10am today. He is also scheduled to play in the main draw in the doubles category this afternoon. The CNMI bet will team up with Patrick Kropp and they will challenge Luke Jones and Matthew Willans in the 4pm match.
In the girls U14 doubles, Miyawaki partnered with Tahiti’s Naia Guitton and they lost to Elodie Foster and Mikayla Zahirovic in the main draw, 1-6, 2-6. Miyawaki and Guitton then recovered on the same day by beating Felicity Taiai and Hannah Townson in the consolation draw, 4-1, 4-1.
Miyawaki and Guitton will be playing in the loser’s bracket semifinals against Julianne Garcia and Georgia Townsend. The semis match is set for 6pm or before Miyawaki debuts in the girls U14 singles division against Zoe Raby.
Miyawaki and Schorr are competing in Australia as members of the ITF/Grand Slam Development Fund Team (Pacific Oceania). They are joined by Tahiti’s Guitton, Vaitea Molinear, Vanuatu’s Clement Mainguy, Stefan Staermose, and Rosalie Molbaleh, Oceania’s Lenny and Romain Fekkar-Soris, and Western Samoa’s Eleanor Schuster.
