Registration is ongoing for the inaugural Saipan Times Badminton Open Team Tournament, which kicks off on May 15 at 6:30pm at the TSL Sports Complex.

Deadline for sign up is on May 8, Friday, with a registration fee of $25 per player. Tournament format is similar to the inaugural Traders Insurance Team Tournament, where players of each squad were chosen by blind draw per category.

The tournament is sponsored by the Saipan Times in cooperation with the Northern Marianas Badminton Association. This will be NMBA’s second tournament for the year.

Tournament director Andreau Galvez said that presidents of the five clubs—Community Badminton Club, Golden Racquets, Saipan Badminton Club, Shirley’s, and Taga—should encourage their members to join.

“This will be the first Open Team Tournament since some years back when team tournaments were open. This should be an interesting tournament and turn out should be good upon the participants joining this competition,” said Galvez.

Galvez reminded that the tournament is open to all registered NMBA members, who has no unpaid membership fees. (NMBA)
