Reyes is NMSA Female Athlete of the Month

Shirley’s Badminton Club member Vilma Reyes was named the Northern Marianas Sports Association April Female Athlete of the Month after the group’s monthly meeting last week, May 7.

Reyes, playing for almost a year now, showed tremendous improvement after claiming two C division titles in last month’s Palace Singles and Doubles Competition 2015.

The Eucon teacher won the singles crown via walkover over Taga Badminton Club’s Irish Pagarao then joined hands with Baby Banadera to win the doubles trophy.

She defeated Taga’s Lani Santos, 21-11, 21-11, in the semifinals while Pagarao earned the second finals berth after a 21-14, 22-20 decision over Lazaro, also of TBC.

Reyes then teamed up with Shirley’s teammate Banadera in posting a 21-15, 21-11 win over the Taga pair of Santos and Gigi Zapanta, 21-15, 21-11. (NMBA)
