Two cocktail competitions at the Taste of the Marianas tomorrow
A total of 13 competitors will be battling it out to concoct the best cocktails tomorrow at the Taste of the Marianas in American Memorial Park starting at 7pm.
Hosted by the NMI Bartender’s Association, six participants will join in the Battle of the Rookies Malibu Rum Challenge, while seven participants will join in on the Battle of the Champion Malibu Rum Challenge.
NMI’s Bartender Association chair Lito Espino said entries in both the Champion and Rookie rounds will be judged based on originality, taste, showmanship, neatness, and audience impact.
For the Champion round, the winner will get a trophy, a cell phone, $250, and a gift. The second placer will get a trophy, $100, and a gift, while the third gets a trophy, $25, and a gift. Prizes for Best in Showmanship are a trophy, $75, and a gift. Best in Taste prizes are a trophy, $25, and a gift. There will also be special awards for props and costume.
For the Rookie round, the winner takes a trophy, a cell phone, $150, and a gift. The second place winner will get a trophy, $75, and a gift, while the third placer will get a trophy, $50, and a gift. The fourth placer will receive a trophy, $25, and a gift. Prizes for Best in Show and Best in Taste include a trophy, $25 and a gift, while a trophy and gift will go to the special award for props and costume.
“All winners for both categories will receive a trophy and medal [while] all participants will receive a certificate of participation,” Espino said.

Taste of Marianas starts at 6pm. The last day will be on May 30.
