On Tuesday, May 19, 2015, at approximately 3pm, detainee Meisy Aliwis was called for an attorney visit. Officers noted that the detainee was not at his assigned housing unit. A head count was done and a perimeter search of the fence line showed no signs of an escape.

Search teams consisting of the Department of Corrections, Guam Police Department, Judiciary of Guam Marshals, and U.S. Marshals Service were launched to several locations based on information from the various law enforcement agencies that are involved in the search. The teams worked through the night and continued the search early yesterday morning.

“We continue to investigate all leads that are reported…as part of the internal affairs investigation. The manner of the escape remains under review. Our priority now is in apprehending Mr. Aliwis,” said a joint DOC-GPD statement yesterday.

Aliwis remains on the run. An internal affairs investigation has been launched to determine how he was able to escape. The Department of Corrections is on lockdown at this time.

Aliwis is described as a Chuuk native, 5’3” tall, weighs 160 lbs, with brown eyes and black hair. He has an “L” scar on his right cheek and a mole on the tip of his nose. He was last seen wearing an orange DOC T-shirt and shorts.

DOC and GPD remind the public to use caution if they encounter Aliwis as he is considered dangerous.

Call GPD at 472-8911 or 475-8615-17, or DoC at 735-5170 or 735-5173.
