A community project involving the repair of a basketball court in San Antonio is expected to benefit residents of Precinct 1.
On Tuesday, Lt. Gov. Ralph DLG. Torres and Precinct 1 lawmakers headed by Rep. Antonio P. Sablan (Ind-Saipan), trooped to the newly renovated basketball court for a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
In a short message, Torres urged the residents present during the ribbon cutting to “take care” of the newly renovated basketball area.
Sablan noted that residents, especially the younger ones, should also have an active participation to “protect” the basketball court against vandalism by reporting immediately to police if they saw somebody vandalizing the court.
In the project brief, the cost of the San Antonio basketball rehabilitation is $72,260. It was completed by the contractor Northpac Corporation in 180 days.
The funding for the project came from the Office of the Insular Affairs (80 percent), while the rest came from the CNMI Department of Public Works, through Saipan Local 18-17.
Some of the noticeable improvements include court flooring, new backboards, electrical work, newly repaired spectator pavilions, and a new chain link fence.
