DPW Rota gets new vehicles as infra projects continue

Lawmakers from Rota lauded the efforts of the head of the Department of Public Works on securing new equipment, including two brand new pickup trucks, to be used for infrastructure projects on the island.

DPW Secretary James Ada showed the vehicles to lawmakers at Capital Hill on Tuesday. The vehicles will be assigned to DPW offices on Rota.

“Tinian will also get equipment and new vehicles as well,” Ada said, adding that funding for the two vehicles—a total of $77,000—came from the department’s solid waste “revolving” fund.

Senate President Victor B. Hocog (Ind-Rota) said this is the “first time” that DPW Rota will get new vehicles.

“We appreciate the efforts of the DPW secretary. These vehicles will help get their projects going,” Hocog said.

Sen. Steve Mesngon (R-Rota) also said this is the first time “in a decade” that DPW Rota will have new vehicles, and that he congratulates the DPW secretary for making this possible.

“We can use these equipment as we move forward with our landfill issues,” Mesngon said.

Projects
Ada, meanwhile, said the DPW continues work on the resurfacing of the main highway in Rota.

He said he and other officials will be going to Rota on Aug. 18 and 19 in Rota for ocular inspections.

Ada said there is also a similar resurfacing project in Tinian, from the Tinian airport to Suicide Cliff.

“I said (in my nomination) that I am not going to promise anything to Tinian and Rota, but this is just the beginning,” Ada said, adding that more equipment for solid waste management projects for both Tinian and Rota will also soon arrive.
