DPL, DLNR mobilize resources to help in clean up drive
The Department of Public Lands and Department of Lands and Natural Resources are pitching in in the ongoing cleanup efforts in the aftermath of Typhoon Soudelor.
DPL Secretary Pedro A. Tenorio said that DPL is lending some of it vehicles for the cleanup.
“This is the time to help,” Tenorio said, adding that the CNMI government has encouraged all departments to pitch in.
DLNR Secretary Richard Seman said the DLRN, through one of its divisions, has also been sharing its resources in the ongoing efforts.
He said the DLNR Parks and Recreation Division has provided equipment such as chainsaws and tractors.
“The division is heavily involved in the clearing efforts. The division has the equipment,” Seman said.
Aside from picking up trash and debris, chainsaws and tractors are being used to clear downed tree branches a day after the typhoon slammed Saipan.
Since Monday, clearing operations have been conducted by government agencies, particularly the Department of Public Safety and Department of Public Works.
As of Tuesday, most of the island’s major roads have been cleared, although a lot of downed trees and other debris can still be seen on the side of the highways.
