Three months after it last opened, the Thursday Market will still be absent at the Garapan Fishing Base today.

According to Angel Hocog, Commonwealth Council for Arts and Culture executive director, they are waiting for the site to return to Commonwealth Utilities Corp. power.

Asked if the weekly market will be operating this month, Hocog said, “I don’t think so.”

“CUC is working on getting the power back into the community first, so that comes in secondary. It all depends on how fast CUC is giving us the power,” he added.

Hocog said the Thursday Market may open sometime in October.

Earlier, CUC said they aim to have all primary lines online by the end of September and that majority of Saipan should be online by the end of October.

The street market last opened June 11 before giving way to the Liberation Festivities.

The Thursday Market was supposed to move to Paseo de Marianas, their original location, while the Fishing Base was being used by the Liberation Festivities but was also hampered by a pending permit from the Department of Public Lands.
