Japanese group sustains link with CHCC by donating anew
The Commonwealth Healthcare Corp. received Tuesday a fresh batch of donations from a Japanese group that included crutches and cranes.
Members of Nippon Izokukai were on island to conduct a ceremony to pray for the war dead of World War II. On their last day, Sept. 29, they made time in the morning to present the items to CHCC.
Nippon Izokukai, a group of war-bereaved families, regularly visits Saipan to promote the welfare of bereaved families and contribute to permanent world peace.
Vice president Yukio Udagawa said the group’s main ceremony was held at the Last Command Post in Marpi last Sept. 29. Udagawa noted that they also held a ceremony on Tinian.
“There are two groups and one group had already visited Guam and they arrived on Saipan,” Udagawa said. Yesterday was their last day.
Udagawa said the trip’s main purpose is to pray for the war dead and they have already done their part. “Now it is continuing a friendship between Japan and Saipan, so we decided to donate to CHCC to continue our long partnership.”
CHCC hospital administrator Jesse Tudela said that Nippon Izokukai has been visiting every year and would always donate to CHCC.
“They donated one wheelchair last year and back in 2013 they donated more wheelchairs. Every year, when they visit Saipan, they give donations to the hospital,” Tudela said. “It is a good networking and continuing partnership. The group would always come to visit the island to pray and would put in their schedule to come and donate to the local hospital.”
