The tournament, which used a two-person scramble best ball format, was held after the team-building event of the golf and resort’s staff.

Nakamura, a member of the four-person CNMI men’s golf team in this year’s Port Moresby Pacific Games in Papua New Guinea, and Magofna scored a net score of 71 to clinch the $50 cash prize. They also placed fourth in the gross score category behind three other pairs.

Laolao Bay local market developer Franco Santos, who is also a member of the golf team in the XV Pacific Games, and teammate Taesik Woo ruled the low gross score with 74. They also went home with $50.

The pairs of Laolao Bay golf course operations manager Tony Satur and Maria Beltran and Laolao Bay president Chang ho Kim and Jacob Lizama ended up tied for second but the former clinched runner-up honors after the tiebreak.

A total of 20 employees joined the tournament where Satur paired the experienced players with the beginners.

Magofna, who is Laolao Bay’s acting human resources manager, said management is planning to hold the two-person scramble tournament as a regular event for their employees.

“We’re looking to make this a semi annual tournament as a team-building event and also to encourage the staff to learn the sport,” added Magofna.

Management also honored 49 of its employees who have been with the hotel and golf resort from five to 20 years. They gave the loyal employees certificates.

Pedro Chicano, Mar Cruz, Jack San Nicolas, and Gil Santos were the longest-serving employees as they have been with Laolao Bay for 20 years. They also received complimentary bottles of wine.

An appreciation banquet was also held hosted by Satur’s team that won the barbecue contest.

“Instead of splitting the money for my team, we decided to hold this banquet as a get-together for the management and the staff,” said Satur.

Sales & marketing manager for Korean market Sang Jin Park and hotel manager Dae Hyun Lee were some of the officials who were also present during the awarding and banquet.
