Anthony Bergancia knocked in a pair of goals for Tan Holdings, including the go-ahead shot to hand MP United its first loss in four games.

It was a come-from-behind win for Tan Holdings, which stared at a 0-2 deficit at halftime after MP United got one goal apiece from Dylan Cho and Rintaro Miyawaki. Cho found the back of the net in the fifth minute, while Miyawaki made it two in row for the division leader with his conversion in the 17th minute.

A goal from Luis Claridades in the 33rd minute moved Tan Holdings within one, while Bergancia drilled the equalizer two minutes later to set up the upset against previously unbeaten MP United. Bergancia went on to score the winning goal in the 51st minute to lift Tan Holdings to a 2-0-2 win-draw-loss record.

In the other division match at the Hopwood pitch, Paire made in to the win column after outclassing the second-running Kanoa, 2-0.

The official match report did not indicate who scored for Paire, which dropped its first three games before stunning Kanoa. Paire, however, registered the twin goals in the second half to notch its first victory in the shortened season. Kanoa holds a 2-0-2 slate and remains in second place in the team standings with its more goals scored against Tan Holdings, 13-11, after four matches.

Kanoa will try to keep its distance against Tan Holdings when the former collides against MP United this Saturday at 1pm at Hopwood’s Pitch 2. At Pitch 1, it will be Tan Holdings versus Paire.

BOYS U18
Tan Holdings 2, MP United 1

Tan Holdings strengthened its hold to the top spot in the boys U18 division after slipping past MP United last Saturday at the Oleai Sports Complex Field.

Joel Fruit and Sean Perez tallied one goal apiece for Tan Holdings, which is still unbeaten in four games, to keep its distance against its closest rival MPU (3-0-1). Fruit lit up the board first with his goal in the 25th minute, while Perez made it a 2-0 advantage for Tan Holdings in the 50th.

Sunjoon Tenorio broke MP United’s silence in the 61st, but the many-time division champion failed to overhaul Tan Holdings’ lead in the remaining minutes of the tough match to absorb its first loss of the season.

Matansa 1, Paire 0
In the other boys U18 duel, Matansa also earned a close win over Paire.

Joshua De Leon knocked in the lone goal in the match in the eighth minute to give Matansa its first victory of the season after losing its first three matches. Paire is still winless in four games to remain at the bottom of the four-team field.

Paire will try again to make it to the win column this Saturday when it meets MP United at 2:30pm at the Oleai pitch. In the 4:15pm match, Matansa will challenge undefeated Tan Holdings.
