$1.6M allocated for FEMA’s Public Assistance Program
Last Wednesday, Federal Emergency Management Agency coordinating officer Stephen M. DeBlasio noted that despite FEMA’s joint field office closing by Dec. 18, more needs and housing assistance are continually being given based on appeals covered under the FEMA Individual Assistance Program, which provides grants to eligible individuals affected by Typhoon Soudelor.
A separate $1.6 million allocated on Wednesday under the FEMA Public Assistance Program, a reimbursement program for eligible public entities, is one of many obligations being processed as projects are completed and summated for reimbursement.
DeBlasio states that this funding will go to the Public School System, the Commonwealth Utilities Corp., the Department of Public Works, Department of Homeland Security, and the Oleai Sports Complex, among others.
As of Dec. 12, FEMA approved 4,802 applications for individual assistance for a total of $24.4 million approved for individual and households program, $16.9 million for housing assistance, and $7.5 million in other needs assistance such as furnishings, transportation, and medical needs. For public assistance, $9.2 million has been obligated or made available via electronic transfer. (
