Public warned of gusty winds, waves

Share

Based on information received from the National Weather Service in Guam and compiled at the CNMI Emergency Operations Center, moderate to fresh trade winds with frequent gusts to near gale force and combined seas of 8 to 10 feet will persist for the next few days. As a result a small craft advisory has been issued.

The small craft advisory is now in effect until 6pm Thursday.

East winds of 15 to 20 knots with frequent gusts to 30 knots will continue through Thursday. These winds are already occurring in the Northern Marianas and will spread into Guam waters by last night.

These winds are beginning to create waves of 7 to 9 feet. The waves will likely build to between 8 and 10 feet during the day or tonight.

The public and inexperienced mariners, especially those operating smaller vessels, are being advised to avoid sailing in these conditions. If travel by boat is necessary, exercise caution when entering or leaving harbors and inlets. (EOC)
