Staff from the Saipan Mayor’s Office and the Bureau of Environmental Coastal Quality will be leading the last three months of the removal of debris left by Typhoon Soudelor.

Commonwealth Advocacy for Recovery Efforts director Jenny Hegland said they continue to provide additional support as cleanup efforts resume today in the villages of Susupe and Oleai.

The site location is at the Minachom Atdao Pavilion and the schedule is from Feb. 1 to 13.

Hegland said CARE’s volunteer weekly debris removal is every Saturday from 8:30am to 12noon. Gloves and other tools are always provided for all volunteers.

“As a community we are making good progress on the island-wide debris removal efforts now led by BECQ and the Mayor’s Office. CARE continues to support debris removal as an important first step in rebuilding,” Hegland said.

She added dates and schedule of cleanup for each village are subject to change on the actual time spent in each village.

CARE volunteers’ Saturday cleanup, sorting, and debris removal are also weather -permitting.

After Susupe and Oleai, the removal schedule moves to As Lito to Fina Sisu from Feb. 15 to 27, then to Kannat Tabla to Chalan Kiya from Feb. 29 to March 12, and in Gualo Rai to Garapan from March 14 to 26.

From March 28 to April 9 Navy Hill, Puerto Rico and Lower Base are the scheduled areas for the cleanup, while from April 11 to 23 it will be the turn of Tanapag and Achugao villages.

San Roque and As Matuis is set from April 25 to May 7, while the Talofofo and Capital Hill area will be the last two villages scheduled from May 9 to 21.
