Camacho renewed as CUC acting executive director

The board of the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. renewed Gary Camacho’s term as the acting executive director for the utilities company.

Board chair Adelina Roberto said they extended Camacho’s term to 60 more days effective Feb. 6.

Camacho was given the position after Water and Waste Water Division chief engineer John Riegel’s term as acting executive director ended in December.

Riegel became acting after Alan Fletcher resigned from the position last June.

According to Camacho, the position has been challenging.

“It’s a little bit challenging but like everything else there are adjustments that needed to be made,” Camacho said.

Asked if they currently have applicants, Roberto said they don’t.

“We’re revisiting the application process,” Roberto said.

“We are pursuing of course the [executive director] and the [deputy executive director]. We’ll advertise that soon and hopefully we’ll get someone qualified for it and get them on board,” Camacho said.

The two said positions are among the vacant senior management positions required under Stipulated Order No. 1.

During last month’s board meeting, Camacho reported to the board that they have chosen an individual for drinking water and wastewater division manager—another SO1 position requirement.

Another SO position which is the “petroleum and compliance manager,” also known as technical manager for oil, was recently filled by CUC after Maximino Simian was hired for the position.
