This week, Sister Remedios Early Childhood Development Center and Mount Carmel School announced that they had approved a historic partnership that will result in the physical relocation of SRECDC to the MCS campus. The relocation will take place over the summer in time for the upcoming 2016-2017 school year.
“We are very excited about this partnership, especially since both schools share the same roots,” said MCS president Galvin Deleon Guerrero. He was referring to the fact that both schools were started by the Mercedarian Missionaries of Berriz Sisters, with SRECDC opening in 1951 and MCS opening the next year in 1952.
Deleon Guerrero added, “And since many of our families have children in both schools, this will make things easier and more convenient for our parents and guardians.”
SRECDC principal Bennet Seman is also very excited about the partnership. In particular, she said, “Given the high cost of maintenance in the current dated facilities, we are very happy that our students will be moving into newer classrooms and buildings.”
Seman noted, though, that despite the relocation, SRECDC will maintain its curriculum, instructional faculty, tuition rates, and uniform code. “We want this to be as smooth a transition as possible for everyone,” Seman said.
As part of that transition, the MCS Leadership Team visited the SRECDC campus earlier this week to identify what furniture, curricular resources, and other materials could be moved. The team even determined that the SRECDC playground could, for the most part, be relocated as well to the MCS campus.
According to MCS principal Frances Taimanano the partnership will complement both schools. “This will be a great way to bring our two schools into one family, which is what the MMB sisters intended all along.”
To facilitate the transition, the MCS team included kindergarten as an option in the school’s online admissions portal, which can be accessed at the school’s website, www.mountcarmelsaipan.com.
