Saipan Rotaract attends regional conference for 1st time
Four members of the Rotaract Club of Saipan for the first time attended the 13th Asia-Pacific Regional Rotaract Conference last month in Kyoto, Japan. The event, where Rotaract members from Asia-Pacific countries interact, was held from March 18 to 21.
The Rotaract, shortened form of Rotary in Action, is Rotary Internationals’ youth group for men and women between the ages of 18 and 30.
Rotaract Club of Saipan president Del Eloise Mendiola, vice president Hillary Agulto, secretary Suzanne Jetnil, and Rotaract member Robert Suzuki Jr. attended the conference.
Agulto said they met other Rotaract member from the Asia-Pacific region—particularly Guam, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, and Thailand in the four-day conference.
“It was an amazing experience, and personally, I was very excited to engage with other Rotaractors and exchange advise on how to carry out various community service projects in our locations,” Agulto said.
She added that despite the Rotaract Club being new on Saipan—starting only two years ago—they are ready to do their share in helping the community. The Rotary Club of Saipan helped sponsor their registration fee in the APRRC.
Agulto said that she’s looking forward to next year’s conference in Thailand and at the same time is encouraging other youth between the ages of 18 to 30 to join the Rotaract. “Come and experience “Service Above Self” first-handedly.”
The APRRC is an annual event where Rotaract members exchange ideas, experiences, and see the culture of other nations. Yogyakarta in Indonesia was last year’s host, while the 2017 conference will be held in Thailand with 39 Thai Rotaractors and four Rotarians present in Kyoto to receive the Conference Bell.
