Northern Marianas College president Sharon Y. Hart assured yesterday that the departure of accreditation liaison officer Galvin Deleon Guerrero will not hamper the ongoing work to reaffirm the college’s accreditation.

Deleon Guerrero, who is also NMC’s director for institutional effectiveness, quit his job following his appointment new president of Mount Carmel School.

Hart promised a smooth transition and assured that NMC’s main goal remains to achieve reaffirmation of its accreditation status with the Accrediting Commission of Community and Junior Colleges.

“In leading NMC’s accreditation reaffirmation efforts, Galvin has been highly effective in managing and strengthening the college’s institutional-level assessment activities. With his assistance and leadership, we have made tremendous progress in meeting accreditation eligibility requirements and standards,” said Hart.

She emphasized that this progress and growth will continue after Deleon Guerrero leaves and that accreditation efforts will remain a top priority at the college.

“Galvin remains committed to assisting in the preparation of the college’s Self Evaluation Report that is due to the accrediting commission in August,” Hart added.

Hart pointed out that the institution has already covered much ground in the preparation of the self-evaluation report as the college’s Accreditation Reaffirmation Team and Accreditation Standard Teams continue to meet weekly to work on and finalize the report. Standard Teams are also continuing to refine various parts of the self-evaluation report, she revealed.

Deleon Guerrero served NMC in 2009 as its director of institutional effectiveness and accreditation liaison officer. In a statement, Deleon Guerrero assured his continued support and assistance to NMC in the completion of its self-evaluation report.

Deleon Guerrero will transition from his current work at NMC to Mount Carmel this summer, particularly in gearing up for the opening of the school on Aug. 9.
