Workshop seeks to make service members ‘marketable’

David)  Some 13 military personnel, veterans, and their family members attended the Employment Assistance Workshop hosted by the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve at the Fiesta Resort & Spa in Garapan yesterday.

The workshop, which was in conjunction with its Employment Initiative Program, was conducted by Richard C. Taitague of The Fleet & Family Support Center in Guam.

Taitague said the workshop aims to help the participants enhance their training to make them marketable, thus improving their chances to get employed.

“It’s important that they take their military training and skills and translate them to civilian language so the business folks can understand what they did in the military,” he told Saipan Tribune. “A lot of people coming out from the military are still using the military jargon, which civilians don’t understand.”

Taitague noted that the workshops conducted for this purpose have resulted in many success stories for these men and women in uniform because they’ve turned out to be “employable.”

“These guys don’t realize that they’re very marketable because they take their military training for granted,” he emphasized.

Taitague said military members and veterans are mature, accountable, disciplined, hardworking, and possess skills and training that are to their advantage when applying for jobs.

“Employers must really consider hiring military and veterans because they serve their country, marketable, very experienced, and trained,” he added.
