CNMI celebrates Nurses Week 2016

Share

The CNMI Nurses in cooperation with the CNMI Nursing Association will be celebrating its Nurses Week from June 19 to 25 with the theme, “Every Nurse Counts! Empowering Every Voice To Promote a Culture of Safety.” Annually, the CNMI honors nurses who have devoted their lives to serve the people of the CNMI. The weeklong celebration will entail different activities where nurses will have the opportunity to update their competence and nursing knowledge during the nursing convention, compete amongst other nurses to showcase their athletic abilities in a Sportsfest and mini-triathlon, and exercise the spirit of public service through medical outreach in the community.

The CNMI Nursing Association would like to invite the community to take part in our community events such as the Proclamation Signing on Friday, June 17, 2016 at 9am, CHCC conference Room 3 and the 5K Nightingale Fun Run on Friday, June 24, 2016, which will start at 6pm (registration at 5pm), at the pavilion across the JP Center building. Registration fee is $10 per person and the first 100 participants will receive a free LED bracelet while the first 50 finishers will receive a free T-shirt. There will also be a health screening held at the Garapan Street Market on Thursday, June 23, 2016.

Special thanks to the many generous businesses and other donors who have made this event possible. The association would also like to send their appreciation to the Office of the Governor, Department of Public Safety, Commonwealth Healthcare Corp., and other privately owned medical clinics for their role and participation in the upcoming Nurses Week.

Nurses Week is a national celebration that aims to raise awareness of the important role that nurses play in society, celebrated during the first week May, around the time of Florence Nightingale’s birthday. Nightingale was well-known to be the founder of professional nursing. On October 1954, Nurses Week was first observed. Our local chapter celebrates Nurses Week during the month of June. (PR)
