Nepartak intensifying into a typhoon, but moves away from Guam

Tropical Storm Nepartak was intensifying into a typhoon, but was moving away from Guam yesterday.

According to the U.S. National Weather Service in Guam, as of 2pm yesterday, the center of Tropical Storm Nepartak was 175 miles north-northeast of Fais, 200 miles northeast of Ulithi, 290 miles northeast of Yap, and 240 miles west-southwest of Guam.

Packing maximum sustained winds at 50 miles per hour, with tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 100 miles from the center, Nepartak was moving northwest at 16mph.

Nepartak is expected to intensify steadily in the next few days and may become a typhoon by early morning today, Tuesday.
