Angels’ Reyes leads SML in batting

  St. Michael’s Medical Response Angels slugger John B. Reyes holds Saipan Major League Baseball’s top spot on the batting chart based on last Thursday supplement of statistics.

Reyes has belted 12 hits in 21 at bats for a league-high batting average of 0.571.

Behind him are Tan Holdings Brewers’ Manny Sablan, Ol’Aces’ Jesus Iguel, Brewers’ Roy Celis and Byron Kaipat, Saipan Stevedore Company Northern Yankees’ Chris Camacho (0.417), Angels’ Marvin Kaipat (0.409), Rep. Ray Yumul D-9ers’ Isaiah Lizama (0.400), and Yankees’ Ben Jones Jr. (0.393) and Gary Cruz (0.350).

The batting statistics were based on at least 21 at bats.

Byron Kaipat leads the league in runs batted in (RBIs) with a dozen with Camacho (11) and Sablan (9) hot in pursuit. Other notables include the Ol’Aces duo of Juan Iguel (7) and Ben Taisacan (6) and Yankees’ Jerome Delos Santos (6).

Delos Santos and Ol’Aces’ Nokki Saralu are the lone home run hitters with one apiece, while Yankees’ Camacho and Jones Jr. both front the triples category with two each.

Celis heads the pack in doubles with four with Juan Iguel, Angels’ Nunu Kapileo, and IP&E-Shell Fielders’ Anthon Tenorio all with three thus far.

Jones Jr. and Saralu are tied in total runs scored with 13 and lead Celis (11), Sablan (11), Delos Santos (10), Jesus Iguel (10), and Reyes (10).

In pitching, although Angels’ Manny Cabrera has allowed eight runs to the plate in 13 and 2/3 innings, none of them were earned and his 0.00 earned run average remains at the helm.

Yankees’ Joshua Jones (3-0) has allowed two earned runs through 29 innings for a highly respectable 0.62 ERA.

Brewers’ Vince Cepeda is also having a good year on the mound and has allowed just a couple earned runs through 23 and 2/3 innings for a 0.76 ERA.

Other notables include Thomas Camacho (0.87ERA), Angels Franco Flores (1.96), Ol’Aces’ Taisacan (2.25), and Ol’Aces’ Juan Iguel (3.80).

Joshua Jones’ 62 strikeouts are still heads and shoulders above the field. He acquired them in only three appearances before leaving last month to play college ball in Kansas.

This opened the door for Fielders’ Elton Santos who trails him by 20.

Cepeda is also in the race at 40 with Fielders’ Brandon Santos, Flores, and Juan Iguel playing catch-up with a handful of others.

The current team standings show the Yankees and the Brewers sharing the spotlight with identical 6-1 win-loss records.

Behind them are the Ol’Aces (5-2), defending champion Angels (4-3), Fielders (2-5), Rep. Sylvester Iguel Masters (1-6), and D-9ers (0-6).
