Ambulance ends up crashing into a palm tree
A Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services ambulance ran off the road and slammed into a small palm tree in front of a house in As Perdido while responding to a car crash late afternoon on Nov. 3, according to DFEMS yesterday.
No injuries were reported at the scene, according to DFEMS acting information officer Linus L. Mizutani Jr.
The ambulance’s driver, firefighter II Allen Teregeyo Calvo, was found at fault.
Mizutani said that based on the traffic investigation, the ambulance was traveling at about 64 miles per hour.
He said the road surface was wet and weather condition was cloudy at that time.
Mizutani said that Calvo submitted to a breath test immediately after the accident, with negative results for alcohol use.
Mizutani said Calvo been placed on restrictive duty until completion of the department emergency vehicle operators course.
Mizutani said that last Nov. 3 at 5:02pm, the Department of Public Safety dispatched a traffic unit to an auto crash involving an ambulance unit from Koblerville Fire Station #4.
The medic-5 ambulance was responding with red light and siren to a reported crash incident at Flame Tree Road in Dandan behind the American Red Cross building. While on its way to the accident, medic-5 ran off the shoulder of westbound lane by Tun Kiyoshi Kileleman Road in front of a residence in As Perdido.
Mizutani said the ambulance swerved and struck a small flame tree.
