High surf advisory until Friday
Based on information received from the National Weather Service in Tiyan, Guam, and compiled at the CNMI Emergency Operations Center State Warning Point, large north-northwest swell continues across the Marianas waters. Winds will become fresh to strong from north to south across the region by tonight, Wednesday, as a shear line pushes slowly southward. This shear line will produce light rain and drizzle through Wednesday across Tinian and Saipan waters and scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms Wednesday night and Thursday for Rota waters.
A high surf advisory remains in effect until 6pm Friday.
Surf will likely fall below hazardous levels tonight as swell turns toward the northeast.
Along north facing reefs, surf will gradually diminish to hazardous levels at 7 to 9 feet today, Wednesday. Surf will likely remain hazardous through the week.
A small craft advisory remains in effect until 6pm Friday.
Combined seas of 9 to 12 feet will produce hazardous conditions for operators of small craft. Conditions will not improve through the week as winds will become fresh to strong from north to south across the region by Wednesday night. Hazardous conditions will persist through at least Friday.
Inexperienced mariners, especially those operating smaller vessels, should avoid sailing in these conditions. Avoid venturing out to exposed reef lines and beaches, especially along north and west facing shores as rip currents will be life threatening. (EOC)
