The first four days of the Tumon Bay Music Festival in Guam was quite a triumph for the Marianas High School Glee Club, which bagged another gold over the weekend, underscoring the group’s gold-winning streak in the last few years of the festival.

Led by musical director Paul Dujua, the 16-man Glee Club’s Rhythm ‘N Harmony performed three songs to win first place in the choral section of the music festival last March 3.

The group made its triumphant return to the festival by singing popular Broadway songs such as Magic to Do from the musical Pippen by Stephen Schwartz, The Schuyler Sisters from the musical Hamilton by Lin-Manuel Miranda, and When You Believe from the movie Prince of Egypt, also by Stephen Schwartz.

Dujua told Saipan Tribune that they are “very happy and proud to represent the CNMI” in Guam.
The group consists of Joselle Reyes, Erica Tubera, Clarisse Torio, Diane Hermogenes, Charley Sablan, Grace Catalma, Eden Conner, Malua Hosono, Rinisa Torres, Leonard Manuel, Miguel Aninon, John Huevos, Roland Balajadia, Gios Gozon, James Reyes, and Jordan Acaya.

Dujua is very proud of the group, saying that members of the group “are truly remarkable individuals who hope to inspire others.”

“We have such talented youth in the CNMI and I am blessed and humbled to be part of the MHS Rhythm ‘N Harmony. These students work very hard to bring out the best in themselves,” he said.

Rhythm ‘N Harmony was also selected to perform at the Command Performances, the festival’s finale concert, this coming Saturday.

The MHS Glee Club was formed in 2010 and won the CNMI’s first choral competition in April 2011. In March 2012, the group emerged as the overall champion in the TBMF in Guam, also winning first place.

The TBMF is a music festival that hosts various musical festivals and ensembles, pitting schools from Guam and the CNMI against each other in categories designed for choir, solo performances, jazz, rock, and winds and strings. The CNMI has been a consistent winner at the festival.

The festival is being held from March 2 to 11. Musicians will perform for the public and judges over the course of the 10-day event.
