PSS/McDonald’s All Schools starts today

Students from Saipan, Tinian, and Rota will troop to Hopwood Middle School Field today as Northern Mariana Athletics kicks off the 2017 PSS/McDonald’s All Schools Track and Field Championships.
Today’s competition will feature four events—60m and 100 runs and softball throw for elementary, middle, and high school students and the javelin throw for middle school and high school entries. Day 1 of the three-day meet will begin at 4pm and teachers/coaches are advised to be at the venue with their respective teams at least 30 minutes before the start time.
The 60m run will start with the girls and boys U7 age group and will be followed by races in the U9, U11, U13, U15, and U18. Six runners in each race are from Saipan, while Rota and Tinian have one representative each. There are events without Rota and Tinian students, so NMA gave slots to other students from Saipan schools that joined the series of qualifiers. Over 70 runners are entered in the 60m races with only the Top 3 finishes in each age group (boys and girls) to receive medals at the awards ceremony.
In the softball throw, students in the U7, U9, and U11 are the only ones allowed to compete. In the boys and girls U11, 19 students are entered with both Tinian and Rota represented and colliding against Saipan bets. In the boys U9, six will battle for the Top 3, while nine will fight for the podium finish in the girls division. For the boys U17, it will be among the 10 qualifiers, while the girls side has only five entries.
In the 100m races, 80 students made the grade with majority of the age group competitions in the boys and girls fields having eight runners apiece.
For the javelin throw, 20 are lined up to participate in the boys and girls U13 divisions and four of them are from Tinian. In the U18 division, only Saipan schools will battle for the girls and boys titles with Mt. Carmel School, Marianas Baptist Academy, Saipan International School, Agape Christian School, Marianas High School, and Kagman High School represented in the event. In the girls and boys U15, each division has eight students who will battle for the Top 3 finishes.
