Finance: Telesource resolved $4.6M taxes it owes
Telesource CNMI Inc. has already resolved the $4.6 million it allegedly owes the CNMI government for the tax period ended in 2011, 2012, and 2015.
The Division of Revenue and Taxation informed the U.S. District Court for the NMI on Friday that it has issued a certificate of release of CNMI tax lien to Telesource.
The notice states that Telesource has satisfied the requirements for the taxes and penalties, according to Richard F. Santos, Taxation collection and remittance branch manager.
Therefore, Santos said, the lien for these taxes and additions have been released.
Last February, Taxation filed a tax lien against Telesource CNMI Inc. for allegedly owing the government $4,595,410 in taxes for tax period ended in 2011, 2012, and 2015.
Telesource CNMI allegedly owes corporate income tax in the amount of $4,593,827 for tax period ended in 2012; manufacturing and wholesaling tax, $1,489 ended in 2011; and monthly business gross revenue tax, $94 ended in 2015.
It would seem (shows) that The Division of Revenue and Taxation does not do it’s job also. Why does it take so many years before they go after back taxes?
What kind of “deal” (resolve) was made? How much was actually paid to the CNMI Govt.?
All of these agencies always are looking for their “pay raise” but at the end of the day just how many actually do their job, especially in the cases when they are dealing with large off island Corps. and also “elite” families?
In the cases of taxes uncollected I would bet if an independent off island audit was done that there would be many local business (along with others) that have not paid taxes. It would not surprise me as to how many of the elected have not paid their taxes for many years also.
