GCA seniors go their separate ways for college

The 19 graduates of Grace Christian Academy have gone their separate ways after their graduation last May 26 at the school campus, but most have fond memories of their time together.

“I have grown up with these people for four years and it is just [amazing] how…we’ve grown as a class,” said class valedictorian Minna Natsuko M. Ito. “I would cherish all of the memories that we’ve made [as a class].”

She said she feels overwhelmed by the thought that she would soon be leaving the island for her education.

Ito plans to go to the Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois, where she will major in speech methodology with emphasis on those with autism.

“I plan to come back to the island. That is my current plan as of now,” she said.

If, for some reason her plans change, she would like to work in Chicago, since that is where the university is located.

Salutatorian Francis Joseph E. Dalusung, who plans to attend a community college in California, said he doesn’t want to rush.

“I plan to take general education at first and when I find something I am passionate about, I will transfer to a bigger college,” he said, adding that residency in California may assist him financially in the future.

For now, Dalusung would be attending Cyprus College in Orange County.

Dalusung, besides being a former Math Court regional qualifier, is also a national academic championship team member with Ito and would be competing in Washington, D.C. this June 2-4. Both Dalusung and Ito were also team members of the 2017 high school mock trial competition that won second place.
