This year’s Corporate Challenge was held last Sunday at the Minachom Atdao Pavilion in Susupe, with Marianas Pacific Distributors Inc., or MarPac, winning first place.
The event, the signature fundraiser of the Saipan Chamber of Commerce, raised $12,000 that will benefit six students. Next week, June 7, 2017, the students will be awarded the scholarship funds at the Chamber’s June membership meeting at Saipan World Resort.
Corporate Challenge is a healthy way for companies and their employees to get together and be active while adding a social component for those who want to sit on the sidelines and cheer on their colleagues.
This year, nine teams went head to head at the 17th Annual Corporate Challenge, overcoming obstacles that tested their unity and sportsmanship.
The teams that competed were Delta Management’s Delta Force, Hyatt Regency Saipan, Fiesta Resort & Spa, Marianas Pacific Distributors, Inc., Pacific Trading Co.’s Monster Gators, Kanoa Resort’s The Black Mambas, IT&E’s Team Blue, and The Shack Saipan.
The day started off with the jingle competition. Each team performed an original dance and song that exemplified their company’s mission. Hyatt Regency Saipan performed an original rap-style song with a choreographed dance that earned them the “Best Dance.”
The second game was a series of mini-games: “Bottle Flip,” “Puzzled,” and “Marshmallow Lift.” Each game required a pair from each team to work together in a battle against the clock for the fastest time. The Shack Saipan sped through the games, earning them the title of “Smartest Team.”
The third game was an intense four rounds where each team competed in a tug of war. One by one, each team fell by the wayside; The Black Mambas of Kanoa Resort, Team Blue, and Team IPI rose to the top. The final round was between Team Blue and Team IPI. Team IPI overpowered Team Blue to get the title of “Strongest Team.”
The fourth game was a five-part obstacle course. The fastest team to complete the course was Delta Force, earning them the title of “Quickest Team.”
Other awards that were given were “Best Dressed” and “Best Tent.”
“Best Dressed” went to Delta Force. Their shirts represented their company and were very distinguishable.
“Best Tent” was awarded to Corporate Challenge rookie The Shack Saipan. Their tent resembled their establishment and represented their company’s stance on “all-natural” beauty.
The “Spirit Award” went to the team with the highest scores in the jingle competition, tent decoration, and company uniform. It was awarded to Delta Force. Delta Management’s ingenious tent decorations gave them the edge over last year’s winner, Hyatt Regency Saipan.
The overall first and second place awards went to the teams with the highest scores in both games and spirit portion. MarPac won first place. Fiesta Resort & Spa won overall second place for the second year in a row.
