Cook arrested for allegedly selling ‘ice’
CNMI Drug Enforcement Task Force officers arrested on Friday a restaurant cook allegedly engaged in selling methamphetamine or “ice” in Garapan.
Joselito Pineda Sioco, 47, also known as Jojo, was taken before Superior Court Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho yesterday for his initial appearance on charges of trafficking and illegal possession of a controlled substance.
Camacho imposed a $100,000 cash bail on Sioco and set the preliminary hearing for June 28 at 9am.
The Office of the Public Defender was appointed as counsel for Sioco. Assistant attorney general Chester Hinds appeared for the government.
Task force officers investigated last March 27 the drug activities in Garapan involving the man, then only known as Jojo.
A “cooperating source” managed to buy $170 worth of “ice” from Jojo, later identified as Sioco, during a “buy-walk” operation at his barracks in Garapan last April 4.
In a second “buy-walk” operation at Jojo’s barracks last April 5, a “cooperating source” was able to purchase $170 worth of “ice” from Sioco.
David said a field test of the seized substance was presumptive positive for crystal meth.
