Parole denied for 2 convicted murderers
The parole applications of two convicted murderers have been denied.
The Board of Parole has denied the parole applications of Shawn C. Appleby and Jesse James B. Camacho.
Parole officer Jason Lizama said yesterday that the board, however, granted parole to Jose B. Manglona Jr.
Lizama said the board also revoked the parole given to Robert Jake Palacios and Alvaro J. Cabrera after finding out that the two violated the terms and conditions of their parole.
BOP chair Ramon B. Camacho and members Cecilia K. Selepeo, Wally F. Villagomez, and Ignacio S. Mendiola conducted the parole hearing at the Department of Corrections’ conference room on Thursday. They deliberated the following day and rendered their decisions.
Chief Prosecutor Michelle Harris opposed the granting of parole for Appleby, Camacho, and Manglona.
Appleby is currently serving a 40-year prison term for killing Byung Ok Suh in November 1996 after robbing the victim’s store, Chalan Market, in San Antonio.
Appleby bolted from prison on Oct. 10, 1999, with two other inmates. He was later sentenced to a year in prison, on top of his 40-year sentence.
Jesse James Camacho was the mastermind in the killing of a 13-year-old boy in Dandan in April 1998. He was sentenced in 1999 to 45 years in prison. The victim was stabbed 37 times in his own home as part of initiation rites for membership in the so-called Red Rum gang.
Camacho’s co-defendants, both minors at the time, entered a plea deal with the government and were sentenced to two years each.
Manglona was sentenced in 2015 to two years and six months in prison for theft and violation of probation.
Palacios was sentenced in 2012 to one year in prison for assault, disturbing the peace, violating an order of protection, and stalking in the first degree.
Cabrera was sentenced to three years imprisonment in 2015 for theft and violating the terms of his probation.
