Tourist agency Century Travel celebrated a milestone last Friday with its 100th tourist to visit the island of Rota in 2017.

Gao Baoling, a native of Beijing, was recognized as the 100th tourist of Century Travel to set foot on Rota in just two months since Century Travel organized the Rota day tour.

She was joined at the recognition rites by Rota Mayor Efraim Atalig and Tan Holdings president Jerry Tan.

“The idea of awarding our 100th Rota visitor…is a good benchmark for the Century Travel day tour on Rota,” said Century Travel business development officer Owen Ji. “We started operating on July 11 and in just two months we had our 100th tourist. It is relevant and we would like to recognize this accomplishment.”

Baoling, who is used to the hustle and bustle of city life in Beijing, finds Rota a good respite.

“I love Rota in terms of beautiful views, quietness, and friendly people. I enjoyed our tour on Rota and I hope to come back again,” she said.

Tourism on Rota is still a baby compared to Saipan and the scheduled day tours of Century Travel helps promote the island.

“The people of Rota would like to welcome more tourists to enjoy and explore their beautiful island. One of our plans in the future is making our day trips transition to two- to three-day day tours,” Ji said.

Rota is known for its beautiful sites—giant latte stones carved out of limestone rock at the As Nieves Latte Stone Quarry, the Sagua’gaga Seabird Sanctuary, Rota’s Swimming Hole, the Tonga cave and Rota Cave Museum, its Tweksberry Park, and Mt. Tapingot.

Local food is equally good. Rota is known for its coconut crab and hot spicy beef soup. All recipes date back to the ancient Chamorro style of cooking.
