The Oceania Athletics Association is inviting its member federations to nominate interested technical officials who wanted to take part in a number of regional events for 2018.

Technical officials are needed for the Oceania Regional championships-Melanesia that will be held in Port Vila, Vanuatu from May 8 to 10; the Micronesian Athletics Championships on Saipan from June 14 to 16; the Polynesia Athletics Championships in Apia, Samoa from Nov. 8 to 9; and the athletics event of the 2018 Micronesian Games in Yap from July 16 to 19.

OAA executive director Yvonne Mullins said technical officials who wanted to take part in any of the event must submit their application on or before 2017 ends.

“OAA is now calling for technical officials’ expressions of interest for 2018 athletics events to be conducted in Oceania. Federations are asked to forward this information to any technical official who may be interested in officiating at the regional championships and Micronesian Games. OAA would be pleased if any interested official would send their expression of interest to attend any of the competitions listed,” Mullins said.

The program is a nomination system with the OAA encouraging member federations to submit their expressions of interest and an approval letter from their association on or before Dec. 31. Notice of appointments of selected officials will be released on Feb. 1 next year.

Technical officials who would be considered for appointment must have actively officiated at the member federation level and approved by the said group to make sure the selection for each event won’t encounter any delays.

In most cases, technical officials who would be chosen would be required to shoulder their own expenses—travel and accommodation. However, OAA is advising officials nominated to avoid booking non-refundable plane tickets until getting confirmation of their appointment.
