Tinian to join global candlelight vigil
Together with its 2nd Annual “Tree of Angels,” Tinian will hold its 2nd Annual Candlelight Vigil for its dearly departed loved ones on Dec. 10, 2017, at 6:45pm.
The community is invited to join and meet at the Tinian Gymnasium and walk to the San Jose Church.
Candles will be lit at 7pm, together with Saipan and Guam—a candlelight vigil from time zone to time zone, as one country light theirs, and the other country blows out theirs.
The event is dedicated to children of any age who have left this world too early.
Last year, Tania Marie Mendiola held the event on Tinian for the first time due to her and her family’s loss of her 16-year-old son, Giovanni. This year, Mendiola includes the loss of her nephew, Giovanni Sgambelluri. Mendiola nicknamed her son Gino, after her nephew.
Mendiola’s goals with the annual candlelight vigil is to bring grieving families together and keep their loved ones’ memories alive, most importantly during the holiday season.
The community of Tinian joins in collaboration with the Compassionate Friends-Saipan Chapter, Team Koka and the Voices of the CNMI-Tinian Chapter. The 2nd Annual “Tree of Angels” by Team Koka will take place right after the candlelight vigil. The families will be receiving their ornaments that they purchased and be placed on the Christmas tree that will be displayed at the San Jose Church. (PR)
