Store allegedly has no parking for handicapped
A man on a wheelchair is suing a clothing store in Chalan Piao for allegedly not having parking space for the handicapped, in violation of the requirements of the American with Disabilities Act.
Thomas K. Sablan accused Tapo Shopping and its owner, 3H Corp., of discriminating against him, in violation of the ADA, by denying him the opportunity to participate and benefit from the goods, services, and accommodation of the store.
Sablan, through counsel Shelli Neal, asked the Superior Court to stop Tapo Shopping and 3H Corp. from discriminating against him.
When asked for comments yesterday, Tapo Shopping owner Chong Yan Hua said that Neal called her about the problem two weeks ago and that they immediately put in place a parking slot for the handicapped.
Hua said that Neal stated she would come to the store and see for herself.
Sablan asked the court to order Tapo Shopping to make the store readily accessible to and usable by those with disabilities, as required by ADA.
Sablan asked the court to order Tapo Shopping to install a stable, firm, and slip resistant accessible parking lot with clearly marked accessible parking space, a clearly marked accessible route to the entrance and accessible ramps.
