The championship game in the 2018 Roball League between Watch & Learn and Kiss My Ace took two days to complete.
There were four sets played and KMA “juiced-out” by the end of the fourth set, 65-45. In Rocball’s set of rules, a team can win a game if it outscored its opponents after four sets of play and won the fourth set.
KMA prevailed in the first set, 18-14. Watch & Learn won the second set, 15-14. KMA was leading in game points, 32-29, after the second set. In the third set, Watch & Learn had a hard time coordinating its plays. KMA, on the other hand, came out strong and steady, scoring a three point goal, making a two point backcourt play, and earning two two-point ace to help them take set three, 15-3.
In the fourth set, KMA stumbled around with three penalty serves and was trailing Watch & Learn, 9-11. Then Alexiana Tyquiengco smacked in two consecutive aces that put KMA back in the lead, 13-11. Watch & Learn was able to tie the game at 13-all, but couldn’t score off its serve. KMA was scoring off Watch & Learns serve, but couldn’t close the set out because it had a hard time scoring off its own serves. Finally, Troy Ngirarois brought the game to its conclusion and gave KMA the title with an ace.
In the heavy hitting category, where players score more than just one point per play, KMA and Watch & Learn were evenly matched with 11 two-point aces each, one jammed serve each, and two two-point backcourt plays. However, KMA prevailed as it scored three three-point goals and Watch & Learn failed to make a goal. (PR)
