670 Akkeri beats Genesis All-Stars, extends streak
The 670 Akkeri stretched its winning run to fifth after downing the Genesis All-Stars, 94-87, in the lone game in the men’s division of the 2018 MIBF Island-wide Basketball League last Friday at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.
The 670 Akkeri turned the tables on the Genesis All-Stars in the second half to extend its streak after losing its debut in the league (against the 670 Sonics).
Behind by double digits at halftime, 34-44, the 670 Akkeri worked its way back into the game in the third quarter and even stole the lead, 70-67, thanks to the 7 points of Angelo Factor. Four other 670 Akkeri players contributed in its third-canto recovery with Kyle Rios, Fred Litulumar, Ben Lisua, and Don Teregeyo making two field goals apiece.
The Genesis All-Stars lost the driver’s seat in the penultimate period, as they relied heavily on Kelvin Fitial and Ken Viray, while the 670 Akkeri spread the wealth to bounce back after falling behind by 10 at the break.
The 670 Akkeri then completed its come-from-behind victory in the fourth quarter, as Sunjoon Tenorio stepped up in the final canto, scoring 8 points. Tenorio also drew support from his teammates to help keep the 670 Akkeri in the lead.
The Genesis All-Stars, on the other hand, failed to regain the upper hand despite Viray’s multiple baskets, as his scoring partner—Fitial—went scoreless in the final canto. Maverick Itibus, who had registered 14 points at the end of the third frame, was limited to one field goal in the fourth.
