Bing Nakamura went 3-for-4 to lift the Comets I to an 8-5 victory over the Falcons in the Junior League division of the 2018 Saipan Little League Baseball last Saturday at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Ballfield.

The Comets I starting pitcher also scored two runs and made two singles, one triple, and three RBIs. Nakamura’s two-RBI single at the bottom of the second inning helped the Comets I take a 6-0 advantage. The Comets I, which scored two runs in the first inning off Nate Aizon’s RBI single and Nakamura’s run from a passed ball, got an RBI double from closer Reid Teregeyo and RBI single from JP Castro in the second inning.

The Falcons, after being shut down in first two innings, broke their silence at the top of the third, thanks to an RBI single each of Sandy Kani and Keoni Serrano. However, the Falcons failed to rally past the Comets I, as they were without a run anew in the fourth and were held to one run in each of the last three innings.

The Comets I, on the other hand, registered two more runs—off an RBI single from Seleno Yarobwemal in the third and an RBI triple from Nakamura in the sixth—for more cushion.

MAJORS
Pirates 11, Cubs 7

The Pirates capitalized on the Cubs’ errors at the bottom of the fourth inning to earn the win in their Majors division match last Saturday at the Miguel “Tan Ge” Basa Pangelinan Ballfield.

The Pirates scored four runs off the Cubs’ defensive meltdown and one off a wild pitch to turn a 4-3 advantage to a 9-3 lead.

The Cubs cut the deficit to 3, 6-9, as they also reached home three times off the Pirates’ boobos at the top of the fifth, but an RBI double and run from Joey Dela Cruz at the bottom gave the eventual winners more breathing room.

Behind by 5, 11-6, the Cubs must make at least five runs to continue the game, but failed to do so, getting only one run off Albert Adriano’s bunt that brought Kaden Deleon Guerrero home. After Guerrero’s run, the Cubs had the opportunity score more as the bases were loaded with two outs. However, Pirates closer J.R. Suel struck out Roque Celis to end the match.

McDonald’s 10, Bank of Saipan 3
McDonald’s had a solid hitting in the third and fourth inning to beat Bank of Saipan.

Behind after two complete innings, 1-2, McDonald’s recorded five runs in the third and added four in the fourth to grab the lead from Bank of Saipan. Pitcher Dillon Santos had a two-RBI single in the third, J.J. Reyes, and Lance Acosta hit RBI double each, and Joel Deleon Guerrero had an RBI single. McDonald’s four runs in the fourth were also earned ones.

Santos ended up going 2-for-3 at bat and tallied three runs and four RBIs. He pitched five complete innings, throwing a three-hitter, walking two, and fanning 11. He had a 1-2-3 inning at the bottom of the fifth to close out the match.

Dylan Mister was perfect at the plate for McDonald’s, hitting 3-for-3, and scored four times, while Deleon Guerrero was 3-for-4 and posted two runs and two RBIs.
