Ol’Aces Real Deal downs Ol’Aces Extreme
The Ol’Aces Real Deal defeated the Ol’Aces Extreme, 81-73, in last Tuesday’s boys U18 division game in the 2018 Frank M. Diaz Memorial Youth League at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.
Both teams played with a shorthanded roster, but the Ol’Aces Real Deal’s key players were there to provide the needed baskets for the division-leading squad. Coby Santos fired 26 points to lead the Ol’Aces Real Deal’ victory, while Chris Sacdalan, Dean Blake, and E.J. Abejo also finished in twin digits with 18, 12, and 11 respectively.
Santos drilled the Ol’Aces Real Deal’s last 9 points in the first period and had a triple midway in that canto to hand his squad a 23-10 advantage.
The Ol’Aces Real Deal remained in control of the match in the second period before Ol’Aces Extreme threatened the former in the third after cutting the deficit to 4, 58-62. Duncan Laxa registered 14 points in the penultimate frame to bring the Ol’Aces Extreme back into the game.
Laxa was still on target in the fourth quarter, but drew little help from his teammates, allowing the Ol’Aces Real Deal to keep the lead and take the 8-point win.
Meanwhile, the Ol’Aces Extreme quickly recovered from the loss to the Ol’Aces Real Deal after pulling off a 49-48 victory over the 670 Sonics XVII last Wednesday.
Duncan Laxa and Carlos Elchico combined for 10 of the Ol’Aces Extreme‘s 12 points in the fourth quarter to withstand the 670 Sonics XVII ‘s comeback bid.
The Ol’Aces Extreme led by a baker’s dozen after the third period, 37-24, but nearly dropped the game when Paulo Cadag anchored the 670 Sonics XVII ‘s rally in the final canto. Cadag scored 8 points in the payoff period, but failed to help the Sonics XVII steal the win when Laxa sealed it for Ol’Aces Extreme with his pair of free throws.
Laxa earlier made two baskets in the fourth quarter, while Elchico drilled the Ol’Aces Extreme’s last field goal and had 4 points in that canto.
