CEC plans to hold voter registration in Guam
The Commonwealth Election Commission is planning to hold a voter registration drive in Guam to give an opportunity to those CNMI residents who are currently temporarily staying on the island.
CEC election register clerk Robin Sablan told Saipan Tribune that there are CNMI residents who are bedridden, on medical referrals, have no access to internet, and don’t know how to register online in Guam.
Sablan said others are in Guam serving in the military, while some are working.
He said they don’t know yet the estimated numbers who are in Guam.
Sablan said for medical referrals, the CNMI is using three to four hotels.
She also emphasized that the voter registration drive is still a plan.
CEC has been active in voter registration drive in the CNMI. The drive at 14 different locations on Saipan, Tinian, and Rota has resulted in the registration of 427 individuals.
CEC acting executive director Kayla Igitol recently disclosed that there are now a total of 17,657 registered voters in the CNMI.
In the 2016 general election, there were a total of 17,928 registered voters in the CNMI.
Starting this Saturday, July 7, CEC’s office in Susupe will open every Saturday from 9am to 3pm to accommodate more persons who want to register.
