MVA, NMDOA clean up Laulau Beach

Staff from the Marianas Visitors Authority and members of the Northern Marianas Dive Operators Association cleaned up Laulau Beach on June 29, 2018, collecting over 300 pounds of trash and recyclable material.

“Laulau is one of our most popular dive sites and is the regular focus of a cleanup effort by the MVA and our partners at NMDOA,” said MVA managing director Christopher A. Concepcion. “We ask all beachgoers to help us maintain the excellent reputation of The Marianas for snorkeling and diving by ensuring they remove their trash from the beach. We collected an inordinate number of plastic bottles, aluminum cans, plastic straws and other garbage left behind by visitors and residents who frequent Laulau. This is unacceptable. We need stricter anti-litter law enforcement at this site. We cut the grass and trimmed trees around the parking area to make it more accessible for vehicles. Kudos to the MVA and NMDOA teams for their hard work.”

NMDOA and the MVA jointly adopted the popular dive spot several years ago and conduct quarterly cleanups at the site. (PR)
